‘Mart Stam, designer of this chair, was a famous Dutch architect and furniture designer. Born in 1899, he was designing legendary pieces by age 27. Perhaps his most famous design is the Mart Stam chair that was initially developed for Weissenhof Stellung. The Mart Stam chair design became extremely popular instantaneously and influenced new designs by Mies Van der Rohe, Eileen Gray, and Marcel Breuer. His work in the Bauhaus and on the Weissenhof Stellung made him a popular designer almost overnight. His other works include contributions to the famed May Brigade, a group of architects charged with designing Stalinist cities in the former Soviet Union. After World War II, Mart Stam became involved in a number of reconstruction projects in Germany. He advocated rebuilding with a modernist approach, but was unsuccessful as German citizens preferred restoring their cities to their pre-war grandeur. Mart Stam died in Switzerland in 1986.

Mart Stam introduced the Cantilever Armchair in 1926, unaware that three years earlier a colleague who taught at the Cologne School of Art, Gerrhart Stuttgen, had introduced a cold-drawn Mannesman tube that was eerily similar. Later Mies van der Rohe invited Mart Stam to the Stuttgart Weissenhof-Siedlung, where he presented his version of the cantilever armchair. It was there Mart Stam learned of the methods of production and tools that were being utilized by the Bauhaus laboratories. Though similar to his colleagues, Mart Stam was awarded the authorship of the cantilever chair design by the German court.’ [ Text from Houzz ]

Opening night (01.11.13) of Rad Hourani Seamless 5YRS OF UNISEX exhibition and launch night of Rad Hourani’s first book entitled 5YRS OF UNISEX at Centre Phi in Montreal. It has been my pleasure to design Rad’s book for over a year and half, the result is a completely black and white volume full of amazing work compiled for over 5 years! For the month-long exhibition, we adapted the book to create large scale wallpapers; each wall presenting a part of Rad’s process path (Anatomy, Sketches, Portrait, Collection). Images of the exhibition can be found here.

WWLTD invited us to collaborate on their blog with an interview on our living space in Montreal.

WWLTD should serve as an open door for the world to experience a young, emerging Mexican culture. This culture is part of a global youth culture and only exists in relationship to that same culture in the U.S., Latin America, and the rest of the world. WWLTD is a truly global project which will collaborate across borders. We’d like to create a focal point for this development by providing a space, both physical and digital. invite you to the private view of EXPOSITION DE PEINTURE/A PAINTING SHOW on Wednesday September, 25th from 7pm at 240 avenue Outremont. The work on show would be the direct consequence of having worked for two weeks previous to the opening in an emptied house in Outremont. Wishing to reaffirm the importance of spending time and working in a physical space, the work produced will allow isolated and non-regular practices to become something of the tangible for the time being, acknowledging the richness of a shared studio in production and today’s contemporary world. The exhibition would also underline the complexity and wide range of references in studying aboard, especially in regards to coming back home and living somewhere else, having stretched and being part of different distinct milieus. This will also be the opportunity to come in contact with a new model of working from today’s young generation being extremely aware of the ephemeral, reactive and often precarious reality and needs brought with the desire of wanting to sustain a regular artistic production.
